Overview

Thin, durable, and useful on more than steel.

Cerakote is a proprietary ceramic-polymer formulation designed to combine hardness, adhesion, flexibility, and resistance in a very thin applied film. The coating can be used on many metals, plastics, polymers, composites, hydrographics, and PVD surfaces after correct preparation.

The current H-Series data we publish lists 27–48% theoretical solids by weight, 254–1,625 square feet of theoretical coverage per gallon depending on film thickness, 8–175 cP viscosity, and 1.26–1.62 g/mL density.

How we apply it

  1. 01

    Initial inspection

    The firearm or item is checked for safety and condition. Unsafe items must be repaired before coating.

  2. 02

    Disassembly & assessment

    Parts are separated and inspected, with potential problems communicated before proceeding.

  3. 03

    Cleaning & degreasing

    Coated parts receive a solvent bath to remove oil, grease, dirt, and other contamination.

  4. 04

    Marking plan

    Serial numbers, painted marks, light laser marks, and masking requirements are reviewed before blasting.

  5. 05

    Surface preparation

    Fine aluminum-oxide media creates the consistent surface Cerakote needs for adhesion.

  6. 06

    Controlled application

    Parts are hung, masked, and sprayed to the coating manufacturer’s application standards.

  7. 07

    Oven cure

    The coating is baked to specification. Multi-stage stencil work is sequenced around the cure process.

  8. 08

    Inspection & reassembly

    We check thickness, appearance, color, and texture. Anything outside our standard returns to preparation.

01Is Cerakote paint?

It is a ceramic-polymer thin-film coating with a controlled preparation and curing process, not ordinary spray paint.

02How thick is the coating?

Our H-Series data recommends a finished film thickness of approximately 1–2 mil.

03Why is sandblasting required?

Blasting removes the existing surface condition and creates a uniform profile for mechanical adhesion.

04Can Cerakote go over oil or grease?

No. Contamination undermines adhesion, which is why degreasing and clean handling are central to the process.

05Can all plastics be oven cured?

No. We need to identify the exact material and heat tolerance. We’ll choose an appropriate process only for compatible substrates.

06What happens if a part fails inspection?

We send the part back for preparation and refinishing rather than accepting an inconsistent result.
